Geanie Luu is a 22 year old creative based in Toronto. She is a visual storyteller who has taken an interest in an interdisciplinary approach. As she is ebbing and flowing in the online/offline artscape, you will find various works as she is currently experimenting with various mediums.

(She is dipping her toes and has yet to nail down a favourite of the bunch. C'est la vie!)

About

EXPLORE

Good art requires the artist to surrender to the unknown. I will leave room for interpretation and see what ticks the elephant in the room...(Ironically, the elephant

is my favourite animal).

LEARN

"Every morning a new arrival.

As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain

them all!" -  Rumi

I want to be in constant pursuit of self improvement and knowledge about the world.

CONNECT

Art and culture is sustained through human interaction and interdisciplinary work.

I'm inspired by cultural practices, creative writing, film,

music, science, and environmental sustainability...these are

the disciplines that

necessitates my work.

THRIVE

By reworking the wheel...growing...and reworking the wheel (only if need be!)

"EM" in Vietnamese translates to woman and it is synonymous to daughter, sister, and wife.

For this poem project, I want to depict raw thoughts, feelings, and movements of a woman during times of suffering in her youth, along with her path to finding purpose.

SELF>LESS

             She is

A standalone uncharted territory

              She is

The embodiment of her mother’s worries

              She is

Stripping away her father’s ego and anger

              She is

Avoiding a void, a cycle

For survival

              She is

Loving her self-more when
              She is

Giving her self-less

PALPITATIONS

Her heart went

Pitter patter

Pit deep

Deep pit

Pit on the path

Path to the aftermath

Pitter patter

Patched the wound

Pitter patter pit pat

Soon she will realize

She is her self

No one is dealt

the same path

the same pain

the same vein

GROWTH

Though/ts no one could

comprehend

The lingering scent of

her jumbling feelings

hanging so loosely,

overshared, overbeared,

by

the amalgamation of hatred

that is deeply

rooted inside herself

Seeking illumination, she

sighs and makes strides towards

embarking on

A sustained wholeness

ENSŌ Showcase is a media house founded by four Creative Industries students at Ryerson who are passionate about the arts and community engagement. The idea of this project came about when we realized that there is a lack of

Toronto-based safe spaces for young Asian creatives.

As part of the ENSŌ campaign, I took part in creating the logo and graphics, as well as managing the talent roster and our social media.

How can we streamline information for kids to understand the climate change crisis?

Thriftpop is a conceptualization of an educational mobile game for kids ages 6-10. The game features an online world where you can create your own character and trade clothes. It aims to teach kids about the importance of sharing and upcycling clothes, as well as the impact that the fashion industry has on climate change.

This project was made in collaboration with the Global Campus Studio Super Course at Ryerson University, two students from Oulu University in Finland, and a team of five other undergraduate students within the Faculty of Communication & Design (FCAD).

As part of the team, I helped put together a medium-fidelity wireframe and created a video for the final showcase.

These are some of my favourite visual pieces that I worked on during my undergrad at Ryerson University. So in a nutshell, they're the

fine attempts at putting my Creative Industries degree to good use.

A collection of the content that I created during my internship working on Communities Create for The Creative Innovation Studio. I wrote snippets of songs/spoken word poetry, experimented with screenwriting, wrote a sample of a journal entry, recorded a sample of a podcast,

and filmed and edited a short "Day in My Life video.

#1

I’m on the path to surpass my own demons

To find myself, as rare and precious in this world

As special as a a diamond, or a pearl

I don’t know what else i’ll uncover in this journey

But I know that there will be better days, so God help me

#2

My, my, my love can travel through isolation

My, my, my love can travel through isolation

I’m filled with hope yet with thoughts of falling under

But through your strength I’ll conquer

To greater days where we can laugh, dance, and sing under the sun

I know that with you by my side, I’ve already won

#3

We all take for granted of the pleasures that Earth offers

Destroying Mother nature, her sons and daughters

Now there’s a warfield of riots before our eyes and some take no bother

To this day, our ancestors urge us: We must be better

They speak through earthquakes and hurricanes all around the world, and farther

We need to do our part and gather strength as one, together.

#4

I see you, I do

I see you, I do

Though I don’t know who I am or what I’ll become,

The light will shine through in the morning sun

It’s the inevitable, just like you and I

Baby I know in the twinkling of your eye

I see you, I do

I see you, It’s true

SCREENWRITING

EXT - AN EMPTY PEDESTRIAN LANE AT LAKESHORE - AT DAWN

The sun’s peak begins to rise in the deep blue sky, Geanie closes her eyes and takes in the fresh summer air that has a hint of mildew from the rain that has just passed.

Beyond her standing ground, there is a familiar sound of the lake water crashing into the rocks. In the distance, there is a couple running side by side trying to keep up with one another, playfully laughing.

This was Geanie’s happy place. She lunges forward with every fiber of her body to stretch and fill up the space.

The rain begins to sprinkle and like a second instinct, she sprints towards the wood-lined shelter from 8 feet away. She peers over to the back corner and to her surprise, she sees a

Border Collie puppy resting inside a green plastic crate.

FADE OUT INTO THE EYES OF THE PUPPY.
